Red light therapy (photobiomodulation) works at the mitochondrial level. How It Works

Mitochondria are cellular power plants. They produce ATP via the electron transport chain. In complex IV, the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase contains copper and iron. Red/near infrared photons (600-1100nm) are absorbed by these chromophores, exciting electrons and accelerating ATP synthesis.
